Vehicle-in-the-Loop Gesamtfahrzeugprüfstand (de) / Vehicle-in-the-Loop full vehicle test bench (en) / ViL (short form)

Offering main image The Vehicle-in-the-Loop Test Bench (short: ViL) consists of four load engines to simulate driving resistances at the driven axle. Additionally it consists of two aligning-torque simulators on the steered front axle. This test setup allows the power, energy and consumption evaluation of modern vehicles during combined straigth and curve driving. Due to the low inertia and the fast electric load engines direct and dynamic response of the driving load simulation is achieved. The VEL was modernized with financial support of the ministry of Science, Research and Art of the state of Baden-Württemberg within the project Labornetzwerk XiL-BW-e. Within the network XiL-BW-e, the test rig can be operate synchronised with other test rigs for battery, electric drives, etc. to test new setups of powertrains.

Security Level / Clearance

Every person who is at the test stand must have received appropriate safety instruction. The control of the test stand is only possible under extended instructions or teach-in processes.

Openness to Third Parties

The control is up to instructed staff, but tests can be requested or conducted in cooperation with the institute.

Researchers, students in their theses, external costumers (all tests are performed by qualified people of the institute).

Accessible only in cooperation with the institute.

Data produced / stored

Test bench measurement data contains all relevant status parameters of the test bench and is available in different file formats (hdf, mf4, csv, tdms).

Types of Equipment / Services on Offer

Testing of full vehicles with a total weight of up to 12 tons as well as powertrains for straight driving and cornering with wheel independent load machines.
